Uber – UX/Product Designer (Contract)
6-month assignment to redesign internal people management tool, Whober

Makiko Harris was brought on as a UX/Product Designer for a 6-month contract to lead the redesign of Whober, Uber’s internal people management platform used by HR and team leads globally. She collaborated with cross-functional partners in People Ops, Engineering, and Data to streamline complex workflows related to performance reviews, team structures, and organizational changes. Her work focused on improving usability, information architecture, and visual design, while aligning with Uber’s internal design system to create a more intuitive and efficient tool for managing employee data at scale.

WHAT WE DID

Led UI Visual Redesign
Redesigned the interface of Whober to improve clarity, hierarchy, and consistency, aligning with Uber’s internal design system to enhance usability and visual cohesion.

Gathered User Feedback via Research & Data Analysis
Conducted user research sessions and analyzed usage data to identify pain points and opportunities, ensuring the redesign addressed real user needs and improved workflows.

Collaborated Closely with Engineering to Launch
Partnered with engineering teams throughout the design-to-development process, ensuring smooth handoff, implementation fidelity, and successful rollout of the redesigned tool.
